What is May Crowning?May Crowning is a special devotion in which we place a crown, often of flowers, on a statue or image of the Blessed Virgin Mary as a sign of our love and reverence. It reflects our desire to honor Mary as our spiritual mother and queen.
Why do we celebrate it in May?The month of May has long been dedicated to Mary in the Church’s devotional life. It is a time to offer prayers, small sacrifices, and acts of love in her honor. These devotions are meant to draw us closer to Christ through her intercession.
A Brief HistoryCrowning images of Mary is a long-standing tradition in the Church, often carried out with proper authorization. Throughout history, many Marian images have been crowned as a sign of devotion and gratitude for graces received. For example, an image of Our Lady in Kalwaria was officially crowned in 1887 with papal approval, and continues to be honored by the faithful.
We look forward to celebrating with you!
